Training Modules

The following training modules are available to be presented bi-monthly, quarterly or on trimester via 90-minute virtual sessions. We will work together to determine modules of highest priority and relevance for your team.

  • Listening & Skillful Discussion - Introduce key relationship management concepts to provide a foundation upon which the following sections will be built.

  • Communication Styles - Learn to better understand your communication style and those of your teammates in order to skillfully navigate situations in which various styles of communication intersect.

  • Balancing Inquiry & Advocacy - Understand the difference between making a point or proving an argument, and how to effectively ask the right questions as a means of collaboratively finding answers and/or solving problems.

  • Interpersonal Communication - Establish frameworks for efficient and productive discussions by reviewing and practicing key talking skills needed for effective interpersonal communication.

  • Goal Setting - As a core skill of optimism, goal setting is widely recognized as critical to success and yet many struggle to construct clear and actionable goals. We work with leaders to clarify goals and to map actions aligned to those goals to ensure accountability.

  • Giving & Receiving Feedback - Explore effective means of expressing, receiving, and asking for feedback, giving an apology, and understanding the difference between what we say, what we mean, and what we are thinking.

  • Conflict Resolution, Management & Mediation - TruePen works at multiple levels to help build healthy conflict resolution cultures. We provide leadership and systemic training on the mechanics of healthy conflict. In addition, we have been called upon to provide facilitation to help teams unwind conflict and move toward healthier mutually agreed upon commitments.

  • Defining Roles, Goals, Authority & Accountability - We work to eliminate ambiguity by helping leaders more clearly define organizational roles, set clear and measurable goals, clarify decision rights and authority, and build internal contracting skills that ensure higher levels of accountability.

  • Internal Contracting & Commitments - Strengthen dialogue tools for framing conversations, making requests, and responding to requests.

  • The 5 Saboteurs - Better understand how we react under stress in order to more effectively handle our own responses and those of the people around us.

  • Teamwork - Examine the expectations and understanding shared amongst members of successful teams: accountability, problem ownership, and team communication.

  • Virtual Team Building - As more and more of our work is conducted via Zoom, Teams, and other digital interfaces, TruePen helps leaders understand how to build team chemistry and foster healthy connections in a virtual context.

  • Avoiding Inference & Prejudice - Become conscious of the impact our beliefs have on what data we select for and include in our interpretations of a given situation, and in turn learn how to avoid the traps of inference and prejudice.

  • The Drama Triangle - Better understand the thought models we adopt and the roles/personas they represent as a means of shifting into a healthier worldview.

  • Polarity Mapping - While many look to achieve balance in work and life, polarity mapping helps leaders to see more clearly what out of balance looks like, and to identify the leading indicators of imbalance, so that they can become more proactive in making moves to sustain harmony.

  • Emotional Intelligence & Resilience - EQ has the highest correlation to creating followership. This training (which can include an assessment) helps leadership teams better understand how EQ shows up in highly effective leaders and how to practice and cultivate EQ skills in individuals and team settings.

  • Productive Meeting Management - Effective meetings are energizing and valuable. We work with leadership teams to provide better ground rules for when a meeting needs to happen, what roles and actions are necessary to make the most of a meeting, and how to eliminate common habits and errors that give them a bad reputation.

  • Learning Circles - In systems where we are providing training, we offer Learning Circles which allow small groups of leaders to discuss real issues they are facing, implementation strategies, and to extend the benefit of their training into a more ongoing community of practice.

  • Leadership 360 Reviews - TruePen manages independent 360 reviews for senior executives, gathering feedback, collecting positive and constructive feedback patterns, and translating learning into new coaching commitments.

  • Assessments - For teams looking for more insight on their behavioral drivers, motivations, and habits we provide a selection of assessment tools that we both administer and provide coaching debriefs to ensure actionable learning.
